Item CARBONYL COMPLEXES OF RHODIUM(I) WITH Β-DIKETONES(NISCAIR-CSIR, India, 1989-09) Jayakumar N; Sivakami K; Chitra S; Natarajan KDicarbonyl β-diketonatorhodium(I) complexes of the type [Rh(CO)2(LL)] (LL = β-diketonate) have been prepared. [Rh(CO)2(LL)] reacts with PPh3 or AsPh3 to give rise to complexes of the type [Rh(CO)(LL)L'] (L' = PPh3 or AsPh3) by the replacement of one of the CO groups by PPh3 or AsPh3. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysesand IR and electronic spectral data.Item STRUCTURE, AGING, ANNEALING, AND DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF EUROPIUM OXIDE THIN FILMS(Wiley/Physica Status Solidi (a), K97-K100, 1991) Meena P; Balasubramanian C; Narayandass K; Mangalaraj DSince very few reports are available on europium oxide (Eu2O3) thin films, further investigations on structure, aging, and annealing of Eu2O3 films are necessary. Hence the present study deals with the structure, aging, annealing, and dielectric properties of Eu2O3 thin films formed by vacuum evaporation.Item EFFECT OF INDIGENOUS DRUGS ON GLUCURONOGLYCAN METABOLISM IN DIABETIC HYPERTENSIVE RABBITS(Pub Med, 1993) Kumari K S; Devi K SDevelopment of hypertension further exaggerated the deranged level of total glucuronoglycan (GAG), different fractions of GAG, activities of synthetic and degradative enzymes of GAG and biological sulphation observed in diabetic rabbits. Administration of indigenous drug preparations (nisakathakathi Kashayam and rasnairandadi Kashayam and its mixture) ameliorated the diabetic hypertensive condition by reversing these effects and thereby arrested.Item CONDUCTION STUDIES ON EUROPIUM OXIDE THIN FILMS(Wiley‐VCH Verlag/Physica Status Solidi (a), 135 (1), 207-214, 1993-01-16) Meena P; Balasubramanian C; Narayandass K; Mangalaraj DConduction studies are carried out on Eu2O3 thin film capacitors. From the ac conduction studies the dielectric constant is found to decrease with increase of frequency (< 1 MHz), but at very high frequency (> 1 MHz) it is found to increase. The ac conductance is found to be proportional to f at low frequencies, whereas a square‐law dependence is observed at higher frequencies. The activation energy decreases with increase of frequency and increases with increase of temperature. The dc conduction studies reveal a space‐charge limited conduction in this film. The density of free electrons, the density of trapped electrons, and the mobility of free electrons at different temperatures are calculated and the results are discussed.Item DIELECTRIC, CONDUCTION AND BREAKDOWN STUDIES ON EUROPIUM FLUORIDE THIN FILMS(Elsevier/Thin solid films, 252 (1), 67-73, 1994-11-15) Meena P; Balasubramanian C; Narayandass K; Mangalaraj DThin film capacitors of Al-EuF3-Al were formed onto well-cleaned glass slides by vacuum evaporation under a pressure of 2.66 × 10−3Pa. The structure of the europium fluoride film was found to be amorphous. From aging studies of the capacitor, it was found that the capacitance becomes almost constant after about 60 days. Two cycles of annealing at 353 K were required to stabilize the film. A large increase in capacitance was observed in the low frequency region, indicating the possibility of interfacial polarization. The frequency dependence of tan δ at various temperatures shows a loss minimum which shifts to higher frequencies with increasing temperature. The activation energy was calculated. The frequency dependence of conductivity and the low value of the activation energy suggest that the conduction mechanism is due to electronic hopping. D.c. conduction studies reveal a space charge conduction mechanism in europium fluoride films. The dependence of breakdown field on thickness and the temperatures show that this film obeys the Forlani-Minnaja theory.Item STRUCTURE, COMPOSITION, DIELECTRIC, AND AC CONDUCTION STUDIES ON TIN SELENIDE FILMS(Wiley‐VCH Verlag/Physica Status Solidi (a), 155 (2), 405-416, 1996-06-16) Suguna P; Mangalaraj D; Narayandass K; Meena PAl‐SnSe‐Al thin film capacitors were fabricated onto well cleaned glass substrates by thermal evaporation under a pressure of 2 mPa. Multiple beam interferometry (MBI) was used to measure the thicknesses of the SnSe films. The composition and structure of SnxSe1‐x films were analysed using Rutherford backscattering spectrometry and X‐ray diffractogram, respectively. The capacitor samples were stabilised by aging and annealing. The variations of the dielectric constant and loss as a function of frequency at different temperatures were observed and the results are discussed. AC conduction studies reveal that the conduction mechanism is due to hopping of holes. The activation energies were also calculated.Item WORK STATUS OF WOMEN AND AGE AT MARRIAGE IN COIMBATORE CITY: A MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS(Tata Institute of Social Sciences, 1997-01) Sheela, J; Audinarayana, NDescribes a study which finds that the work status of women before marriage has a direct bearing on their age at marriage, and has a moderate influence through the time taken to initiate marriage after menarche. Education status of women has exhibited a greater role in influencing the age at marriage through the time taken to initiate marriage after menarche (indirect effect rather than its direct effect).Item PHOTOCHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF S-TRIAZOLO[3,4-B]BENZOTHIAZOLE AND MECHANISTIC STUDIES ON BENZOTHIAZOLE FORMATION(University of Madras, 1997-08-22) Jayanthi G; Muthusamy S; Paramasivam R; Ramakrishnan V.T; Ramasamy N.K; Ramamurthy PA general photochemical synthesis of s-triazolo[3,4-b]benzothiazoles from 4,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-triazole-3-thione is described. Steady photolysis, quantum yield determination, and laser flash photolysis experiments have been carried out. An intramolecular electron transfer mechanism has been proposedItem LIVING ARRANGEMENTS OF THE ELDERLY WOMEN IN A RURAL SETTING OF SOUTH INDIA: PATTERNS, DIFFERENTIALS AND DETERMINANTS(International Review of Modern Sociology, 1999) Audinaryana N; Sheela J; Kavitha NLiving arrangements of the rural female elderly in India is at the state of deplorable condition Findings from selected villages in southern India suggest that a large proportion of the elderly widowed women live with children, whereas slightly more than half of the married live by themselves (i.e., with spouse only). Birvarate analysis reveal that while the increased monthly income and availability of surviving children are likely to encourage the older people to co-reside with their own children, irrespective of marital status, higher occupational status of the elderly reduces the co-residence with children among widowed. The logistic regression analysis highlighted that women with higher monthly family income, not working, suffering with physical disability and belong to lower caste tend to increase the probability of living with children. On the other hand, the tendency to live with children among the currently married elderly women has increased with the availability of son and their level of education.Item DEFLUORIDATION PROPERTY OF BURNT CLAY(Indian Water Works Association, 1999) Karthikeyan G; Muthulakshmi Andal N; Saravana Sundar GRemoval of fluoride ions from aqueous solutions using burnt clay (brick powder) by both Batch and Column methods are discussed.Item TOXIC EFFECTS OF NICKEL SULPHATE ON EMBRYONIC MICE (EXPOSED MALE: NORMAL FEMALE)(ASOC for The Advancement Of Zoology-India, 1999-06-01) Pandey, R; Kumar, R; Singh, SP; Srivastava, SPMating between Nickel Sulphate treated male mice and normal female mice resulted in a decreased number of foetus, weight of foetus and length of foetus. But there is no accumulation of Nickel Sulphate in embryonic mice. The number of corpora lutea increased and fertility reduced in female mice. Our aim was to determine male mediated toxic affects of Nickel on embryonic mice.Item INHERITANCE OF MARRIAGE AGE: THE CASE OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA(Hindustan Publishing Corpn, 2001) Sheela J; Audinarayana N; Krishnamoorthy SE desp ARLY and universal marriage is the characteristic of nuptiality pattern in India. Despite the Child Marriage Restraint Act of 1929 and its amendment in 1978, pre-puberty and child marriages still continue to take place in India, particularly in Rajasthan state (Goyal, 1988). Singulate Mean Age at Marriage (SMAM) computed from the Census data for the years 1961, 1971, 1981 and 1991 shows that in Rajasthan the mean age at marriage has increased (Table 1). However, even by 1991 the mean age at marriage of females did not cross the minimum legal age at marriage of 18 years.Item THE EFFECTS OF HYPOXIC STRESS ON THE BIMODAL RESPIRATION OF MACROPODUSCUPANUS(Biocon Publications India Pvt., Ltd, Erode, Tamil Nadu, India, 2001-06) Esther Joice P; Mallikaraj D; Parthi N; Natarajan G M; Sasikala G; Tamilselvi G; Kasthuri MShort term (48 h) hypoxic stress increased the aerial respiration and depressed the aquatic consumption. Long term (15 and 30 days) stress increased the aerial respiration and reduced the aquatic respiration. The total respiration declined at all times of exposure. It appears that respiratory depression is an effective strategy to combat hypoxic stress in MacropoduscupanusItem ON THE AESTIVATION OF MACROPODUSCUPANUS(Biocon Publications India Pvt., Ltd, Erode, Tamil Nadu, India, 2002-06) Mallikaraj D; Esther Joice P; Parthi N; Natarajan G M; Sasikala G; Tamilselvi G; Kasthuri MExtensive information are made available on the aestivation of air .breathing fishes (Smith, 1961; Natarajan, 1985 ; Mckenizle and Randall, 1990) but practically nothing is known on the aestivation of Macropoduscupanus. In this communication, the results of some investigations on the aestivation of Macropoduscupanusare described as it is known to have acquired the faculty of surviving period of severe drought.Item ON THE FUNCTION OF LABYRINTHINE ORGAN OF MACROPODUSCUPANUS(Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, 2002-12-12) Natarajan G M; Parthi N; Esther Joice P; Mallikaraj D; Jacintha S; Bhuvaneshwari N; Sasikala G; Palanisamy PThe labyrinthine organs of Macropoduscupanus are shown to be effective in gas exchange during bimodal breathing. Under completely aerial conditions, significant participation of the labyrinthine organ in gas exchange is doubtful. Amputation of the labyrinthine organ increases the air breathing frequency. The period of survival out of water in amputated fishes is limited. The labyrinthine organ promotes trapping and retention of air in the suprabranchial chamber. It might also serve to minimise the evaporation of water from the labyrinthine organ.Item ON THE BIMODAL RESPIRATION OF NOTOPTERUSNOTOPTERUS(Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, 2002-12-12) Vijayalakshmi, P; Natarajan G M; Parthi, N; Esther Joice P; Jacintha, S; Mallikaraj D; Bhuvaneshwari, N; Sasikala GNotopterusnotopterus is a freshwater air-breathing fish distributed in various habitats in the Indian subcontinent. The fish presents a number of adaptations to its air-breathing habit. The fish is capable of living on land. However, the fish is a facultative air-breather. Under bimodal conditions, it extracted 57.7% of its total oxygen, requirement from water and 42.3% from air for respiratory purposes. The air/aquatic ratio was 0.73Item FIRST REPORT ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL RECONSTRUCTION OF DEVONIAN PERIOD COIMBATORE CITY AS REVEALED BY THE FIRST PLANT FOSSIL FINDING(Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, 2002-12-12) Natarajan G.M; Parthi N; Santhi P; Krishna Kumar N; Palanisamy P; Bhuvaneshwari N; Sasikala G; Rajamamannan M.A; Parimala KFirst report for the first time we report the occurrence of a rare fossil plant in Coimbatore. The present plant fossil was obtained from four different places in the heart on city town during foundation digging for apartment construction activities. Perusal of the literature showed that these fossils were reported only from Australia and other places. With the help of the present fossil finding an attempt is made to reconstruct the Devonian period environment of Coimbatore city.Item NITROGEN EXCRETION IN THE FEATHERBACK, NOTOPTERUSNOTOPTERUS (PALLAS)(Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Avinashilingam Deemed University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, 2002-12-12) Vijayalakshmi P; Parthi N; Natarajan G M; Mallikaraj D; Esther Joice P; Jacintha S; Bhuvaneshwari N; Sasikala G; Palanisamy PNotopterus is predominatlyammoniotelic excreting 78.12% of waste nitrogen as ammonia and 21.62% as urea nitrogen. Mucous was the main route for the excretion of ammonia and urea. Emersion enhanced the excretion of ammonia and urea. Prolonged emersion stimulated the excretion rates of ammonia and urea. Aerial exposure significantly increased the blood and liver ammonia and urea content.Item DURATION OF SEARCH FOR A PROSPECTIVE MATE AND ITS DETERMINANTS IN TAMIL NADU(VHL Regional Portal Information and Knowledge for Health, 2003) Sheela J; Audinarayana NDuration of search for a prospective mate and its determinants in Tamil Nadu | IMSEAR loading Conteúdo principal 1 Busca 2 Rodapé 3 +A A -A Alto contraste Portal Regional da BVS Informação e Conhecimento para a Saúde português español english français Localizar descritor de assunto Busca Avançada EVID@Easy Pesquisar 1.Home 2.Pesquisa 3.Duration of search for a prospective mate and its determinants in Tamil Nadu Duration of search for a prospective mate and its determinants in Tamil NaduItem MATE SELECTION AND FEMALE AGE AT MARRIAGE: A MICRO LEVEL INVESTIGATION IN TAMIL NADU, INDIA(Journal of Comparative Family Studies, 2003) Sheela J; Audinarayana NThis paper aims to examine the process of mate selection in determining the age at marriage of 600 ever-married women drawn from rural (300) and urban (300) areas of Salem district, Tamil Nadu. Results based on the Multiple Classification Analysis show that both in rural and urban areas, time taken to initiate marriage process after menarche, caste background, age difference between bride and bridegroom and consultation of women for their marriage have played a greater role in determining their age at marriage in that order. Further, in urban areas, consanguinity has exhibited a highly significant effect on their age at marriage. While the role of payment of dowry has some effect on age at marriage of women both in rural and urban areas, the practice of horoscope matching has such an effect only in rural areas. Contrary to the expectation, first-born daughters enter into matrimony comparatively at higher ages than their later-bom counterparts only in rural areas. A weak support to residential propinquity theory of mate selection is also noticed.
