Item CORROSION INHIBITION AND ADSORPTION BEHAVIOUR OF SOME BIS-PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES ON MILD STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIUM(Elseiver, 2017-01-01) Nagarajan, Anusuya; Jagadeesan, Saranya; Palanisamy, Sounthari; Abdelkader, Zarrouk; S, ChitraThe inhibition ability of mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 by bis-pyrimidine derivativeswas investigated using chemical and electrochemical techniques. Results obtained indicate that bis-derivatives inhibited the corrosion of mild steel in the acid medium. The inhibition efficiency increases with increase in concentration of bis-derivatives but decrease with rise in temperature. Adsorption of bis-derivatives on the steel surface in 1 M H2SO4 follows the Langmuir adsorption model. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy, enthalpy, entropy and free energy of activation and adsorption were calculated. Gibbs free energy indicated that the adsorption process is spontaneous. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to studymorphologyofthesteelsurface.Resultsobtainedfromquantumchemicalstudiesshowexcellentcorrelations between quantum chemical parameters and experimental inhibition efficiencies using density functional theory (DFT).Item COMPARISON OF THE INHIBITION PROPERTY OF QUINOXALINE DERIVATIVE ON MILD STEEL IN 1.5M H2SO4, 3M HCL AND 1M H3PO4(University of Mohammed Premier, 2017-01) J, Saranya; P, Sounthari; S, ChitraCorrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1.5M H2SO4, 3M HCl and 1M H3PO4 was investigated in the absence and presence of different concentrations of quinoxaline derivative namely 2,3-di(furan-2-yl)quinoxaline(FQ). Weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were employed. Impedance measurements showed that the charge transfer resistance increased and double layer capacitance decreased with increase in the inhibitor concentration. Potentiodynamic polarization study showed that the inhibitor acted as mixedtype inhibitors in all the three acids.Item CORROSION INHIBITION AND ADSORPTION BEHAVIOUR OF SOME BIS-PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES ON MILD STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIUM(Elsevier, 2017-01) N, Anusuya; J, Saranya; P, Sounthari; S, ChitraThe inhibition ability of mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 by bis-pyrimidine derivatives was investigated using chemical and electrochemical techniques. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) methods were utilized for surface characterization. The results showed that the three inhibitors possess excellent inhibition effect toward mild steel corrosion. The inhibitor molecules are adsorbed on the mild steel surface, blocking the reactive sites available for acid attack. Adsorption of the inhibitor was found to obey Langmuir isotherm. Electronic structure calculations were used to study the inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor molecules on Fe (100) surface. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental findings.Item SYNTHESIS AND CORROSION INHIBITION STUDY OF BENZOTHIAZEPINE DERIVATIVES ON MILD STEEL IN ACID MEDIUM(Oriental Scientific Publishing Company, 2016-03-12) Sasikala; K, Parameswari; S, Chitra2-ethoxy-4-(4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepin-2-yl) phenol (EPBTZ) and 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepine (MPPBTZ) were synthesized by the condensation reaction between o-aminothiophenol and chalcone. The synthesized benzothiazepines were characterized by FTIR spectra. Their corrosion inhibition property on mild steel in sulphuric acid medium was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical techniques. Scanning electron microscopic studies were employed to examine the surface morphology of the inhibited and uninhibited metal samples. The compound EPBTZ revealed good corrosion protection property than MPPBTZ at all the temperatures studied. Electrochemical studies showed that the inhibitors behave as mixed type inhibitor retarding both cathodic and anodic corrosion reaction by forming an adsorbed protective layer.
