Item ASTER KORAIENSIS AS NONTOXIC CORROSION INHIBITOR FOR MILD STEEL IN SULFURIC ACID(Elsevier, 2017-08-25) Prabakaran M; Kim, Seung-Hyun; Mugila N; Hemapriya V; Parameswari K; Chitra S; Chung, Ill-MinInhibition efficiency of Aster koraiensis leaf extract toward corrosion of mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 solution was investigated using weight loss, electrochemical, FT-IR, SEM, and EDX methods The individual phenolic compounds present in A. koraiensis extract were identified. Maximum efficiency of 90.53% was achieved at 2000 ppm of the extract. The corrosion kinetic parameters determined from the polarization curves indicated that the extract acted as a mixed-type inhibitor. Adsorption of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface obeyed the Langmuir isotherm. SEM investigations confirmed the formation of inhibition layer unto the metal surface by compounds present in the extract.Item EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL STUDIES ON INHIBITION OF BENZOTHIAZINES AGAINST CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIUM(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2017-05-02) Hemapriya V; Prabakaran M; Parameswari K; Chitra S; Kim, Seung-Hyun; Chung, Ill-MinPurpose The aim of this paper was to investigate the corrosion inhibition potential of two synthesized benzothiazines, namely, 3,4-dihydro-2-methoxycarbonylmethyl-3-oxo-2H-1,4-benzothiazine (1) and ethyl 3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzothiazine-2-carboxylate (2) on mild steel corrosion in 1M H2SO4. Design/methodology/approach Corrosion inhibition efficiency (IE%) was studied by weight loss measurements, potentiodyanmic polarization method, alternating current (AC) impedance spectroscopy, fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Quantum chemical approach was used to complement the experimental results. Findings The results obtained show that the IE% increased with inhibitor concentration and follow the order 2 > 1, obeying Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The calculated quantum chemical indices were consistent with experimental results. Originality/value This paper provides information on the inhibitive properties of new set of benzothiazines on mild steel corrosion in 1M H2SO4.Item SYNTHESIS AND CORROSION INHIBITION STUDY OF BENZODIAZEPINES ON MILD STEEL IN SULPHURIC ACID MEDIUM(Elsevier, 2017-04) Sasikala T; Parameswari K; Chitra S; Kiruthika A2,4-diphenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-1,5-benzodiazepine (DPBD) and 4-phenyl-2-(2-ethoxy-3-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-1,5-benzodiazepine (EPBD) were synthesized by the condensation of o-phenylenediamine and chalcone catalyzed by sulphated zirconia and characterized by FTIR spectra. Corrosion inhibition property of the benzodiazepines on mild steel in sulphuric acid medium was investigated by mass loss and electrochemical methods. The Compound EPBD showed better corrosion protection properties than DPBD both at room temperature and at higher temperatures. The results showed that the compounds act as good inhibitor and the efficiency increased with increase in their concentration. The adsorption of the inhibitors on the surface of mild steel was found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. SEM study showed the formation of a protective adsorptive film of the inhibitor on mild steel surface.Item 1,3,4-OXADIAZOLE DIMERS: NEW AND EFFECTIVE CORROSION INHIBITORS FOR MILD STEEL IN SULPHURIC ACID SOLUTION(Council for Innovative Research, 2014-05-30) Sounthari P; Kiruthika A; Saranya J; Parameswari K; Chitra SThe corrosion inhibition property of 1,3,4-oxadazoledimers have been investigated for mild steel in acidic environment using gravimetric method, Tafel polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), scanning electron microscope(SEM), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and adsorption isotherm. The results revealed that 1,3,4-oxadiazole dimers had excellent corrosion inhibition property for mild steel in 1M H2SO4 acid media and its inhibitive efficiency was more than 99% even with a low concentration of 1000ppm.The adsorption of the organic compounds on the mild steel surface obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. IR spectra and SEM proved the adsorption of organic inhibitors and the formation of corrosion products on the mild steel surface.Item ADSORPTION AND INHIBITIVE PROPERTIES OF TRIAZOLO- PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES IN ACID CORROSION OF MILD STEEL(Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2011) Parameswari K; Chitra S; Kavitha S; Rajpriya J; Selvaraj AInhibitive and adsorption properties of synthesized triazolo- pryimidine derivatives (P1, P2 & P3 ) for the corrosion of mild steel was investigated using weight loss and electrochemical methods. Inhibition efficiency increased as the concentration of the inhibitor increased but decreased with increase in temperature. The triazolopyrimidines were found to act as adsorption inhibitors for the corrosion of mild steel. The adsorption mechanism of the triazolopyrimidine was found to be physisorption, spontaneous and exothermic. Also the adsorption followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. polarisation studies showed that the inhibitors behave as cathodic type.Item PYRIMIDINE AMINES AS INHIBITORS FOR THE ACID CORROSION OF MILD STEEL(Global Journals, 2010-10) Parameswari K; Chitra S; Rajpriya J; Kavitha S; Selvaraj AThree Pyrimidine amines (PA1, PA2 & PA3) have been synthesized and investigated for corrosion inhibition activity towards mild steel in 1M H2SO4. Weight loss, potentiodynamicpolarisation and electrochemical impedance spectral techniques have been used. Thermodynamic parameters [∆G°ads, ∆H° and ∆S°]have been evaluated. The compounds act through physisorption mechanism on the mild steel surface and obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Polarisation studies showed that the compounds behave as cathodic type.
