SYNERGISTIC EFFECT OF SCHIFF BASE ON THE CORROSION INHIBITION OF MILD STEEL IN SULPHURIC ACID
    (DJ Publications, 2016-09-07) Dasami P.M; Parameswari K; Chitra S
This paper is focused on the variation in corrosion inhibition efficiency of a Schiff base in acid environment. A new Schiff base has been synthesized from heterocyclic amines and aldehyde. The synergistic effect was studied using KCl, KBr and KI. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency increased with increasing concentration and enhanced with the addition of halide ions. The synergism parameter was also calculated.

POLYESTER-BENTONITE CLAY COMPOSITE: SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND APPLICATION AS ANTICORROSIVE AGENT
(Oriental Scientific Publishing Company, 2015-08-20) Chitra S; Sounthari P; Kiruthika A; Parameswari K
New polyester-bentonite clay composite was prepared and characterized by FTIR, TGA, SEM& XRD. The XRD and SEM studies are quite supportive of well dispersed polymer clay composite formation. The thermal stability of the polymer was significantly improved as indicated by TGA. The composite was evaluated for its inhibition performance for mild steel corrosion in 1M H2SO4 by weight loss, polarization and electrochemical impedance techniques. The studies reveal that the clay composite was an excellent adsorption type inhibitor and obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Electrochemical studies showed that the polymer composite was a mixed inhibitor retarding both anodic metal dissolution and cathodic hydrogen evolution.

POTENTIAL APPLICATION OF POLYMER – CLAY COMPOSITE AS CORROSION INHIBITOR FOR LOW CARBON STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIA
(Chemical Science Review and Letters, 2014) Kiruthika A; Sounthari P; Parameswari K; Chitra S
A novel polymer – MMT composite has been prepared and evaluated as excellent corrosion inhibitor for mild steel by gravimetric and electrochemical studies. The prepared composite and the polymer were subjected to thermal and spectral studies. The X-ray diffraction result for polymer - MMT composite showed the intercalation of polymer between the clay layers. The FT-IR result shows the successful incorporation of MMT clay in the polymer. The inhibitors obey Langmuir isotherm indicating that inhibition occurs via adsorption of a monolayer on the mild steel surface. Thermodynamic and kinetic parameters have been evaluated.

ADSORPTION AND INHIBITIVE PROPERTIES OF TRIAZOLO- PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES IN ACID CORROSION OF MILD STEEL
    (Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2011) Parameswari K; Chitra S; Kavitha S; Rajpriya J; Selvaraj A
Inhibitive and adsorption properties of synthesized triazolo- pryimidine derivatives (P1, P2 & P3 ) for the corrosion of mild steel was investigated using weight loss and electrochemical methods. Inhibition efficiency increased as the concentration of the inhibitor increased but decreased with increase in temperature. The triazolopyrimidines were found to act as adsorption inhibitors for the corrosion of mild steel. The adsorption mechanism of the triazolopyrimidine was found to be physisorption, spontaneous and exothermic. Also the adsorption followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. polarisation studies showed that the inhibitors behave as cathodic type.

PYRIMIDINE AMINES AS INHIBITORS FOR THE ACID CORROSION OF MILD STEEL
    (Global Journals, 2010-10) Parameswari K; Chitra S; Rajpriya J; Kavitha S; Selvaraj A
Three Pyrimidine amines (PA1, PA2 & PA3) have been synthesized and investigated for corrosion inhibition activity towards mild steel in 1M H2SO4. Weight loss, potentiodynamicpolarisation and electrochemical impedance spectral techniques have been used. Thermodynamic parameters [∆G°ads, ∆H° and ∆S°]have been evaluated. The compounds act through physisorption mechanism on the mild steel surface and obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Polarisation studies showed that the compounds behave as cathodic type.

STUDY OF MANNICH BASES AS NOVEL CORROSION INHIBITORS FOR MILD STEEL IN SULPHURIC ACID MEDIUM
    (Sricreeper Technologies/Indian Institute of Technology Madras, 2015) Dasami P M; Parameswari K; Chitra S
The inhibition effect of two synthesized Mannich bases (MB 1 & MB 2) on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M H2SO4solution was studied by weight loss measurements, polarization, alternating current impedance (electrochemical impedance) spectroscopy and quantum chemical studies. The surface examination was carried out by scanning electron microscopy and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The compounds show the maximum of 77% and 81% inhibition efficiency respectively at 0.5 mM concentration. Polarization curves revealed that the use of inhibitors exhibit mixed-type affecting both cathodic & anodic corrosion reactions. Adsorption of the Mannich base led to a reduction in the double- layer capacitance and an increase in the charge transfer resistance. The results indicate that the inhibition efficiency was significantly increased with increasing concentration and decreased with temperature. Adsorption of both compounds obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

INFLUENCE OF PYRAZOLINES ON THE CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN 1 M SULPHURIC ACID
(PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, 2009) Selvaraj A; Parameswari K; Chitra S; Jayanthi C; Christus Sheeba
The corrosion behaviour of mild Steel in 1M Sulphuric acid solution and its inhibition by pyrazolines was studied using weight-loss method at various temperatures(303-333k), electrochemical techniques, and gasometric method. The data revealed that the pyrazolines act as good inhibitor in the acid environment. The percentage inhibition efficiency of pyrazoline increased with increase in inhibitor concentration. Potentiodynamic polarization studies reveal that the pyrazolines act as anodic type inhibitors. Adsorption on the mild steel surface followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy(Ea) and free energy of adsorption(ΔGads) were calculated. The synergistic effect of iodide ions on the performance of one of the pyrazolines was also studied.
