Item AN IMPACT OF MICRO CREDIT ON WOMEN PARTICIPATING IN SELF HELP GROUP(PARIPEX- INDIAN JOURNAL OF RESEARCH, 2015-06) RajaRajeswari MSelf-Helps groups play today a major role in poverty alleviation in India. A growing number of poor people in various parts of India are members of SHGs and actively engage in savings and credit, as well as in other activities. Significantly, credit is a major factor in boosting economic development if it is effectively utilized. The government’s recent initiatives to streamline credit operations and delivery system through micro-finance movement and strengthening and expansion of credit institutions can definitely help in the revival of economy of the poor. Against this backdrop, the present study has been carried out to assess the impact of micro-finance on economic status of women. The present study deals with the SHGs in Coimbatore district. This would be the instrument to provide women with collective access to services of different governmental programs and schemes that were hitherto usually denied them as individuals. Although Self Help Groups were originally viewed as a minor component of the Self Help Movement Programme, they gained so much momentum that they were eventually used to launch many of the awareness and skill training programs under Self Help Movement Programme. The groups presented forums that were highly effective in reaching the overall communities. The present study deals with the SHGs in Coimbatore district. The empirical findings of this study would pave the way for taking certain policy decisions for strengthening the SHGs training programmes.Item A THRUST ON MICROFINANCE LENDING ACTIVITY PERFORMED BY BANKS(International Journal of Management and Social Development, 2015-04) RajaRajeswari MSelf-reliance of SHGs based on internal savings and retained earnings was found to be rapidly growing, exceeding in older groups the volume of bank refinance by an increasing margin. SHGs deposit substantial amounts of savings voluntarily in banks as a reserve for bad debts. In addition to direct effects on bank profits, SHG Banking has indirect commercial effects on banks in terms of improved overall vibrancy in banking activities. The main value of the study is therefore methodological: an questionnaire was used to examine the lending and recovery performance of SHG linkage banking at the level of bank branches, banks in Coimbatore District
