Item ACCESS AND USAGE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES BY ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE STUDENTS IN COIMBATORE CITY(IOSR Journal of Business and Management (IOSR-JBM), 2019-03) D, VijayalakshmiIn this Digital era, social networking sites play an imperative role in the society for communication and interaction. It is an online pedestal to share information, ideas, content, etc., through virtual communication and network. College students are the avid users of social net working sites. It assists them to obtain information regarding academic matters and also to build cordial relationship with teachers and class mates. A sample of 200 respondents from 10 arts and science colleges has been taken for the study by adopting convenience sampling technique. The statistical tools, such as, percentage analysis, multiple response analysis, and chi square test have been applied to analyse the data. The study has concluded that the majority of the students are using face book and you tube. They are familiar with chatting, texting of messages and building of group conversation. They used to access social networking sites at any time anywhere on daily basis for a minimum of one hour. The study has also revealed that the demographic factors, such as, age, sex, and students doing part time job have a significant association with the number of years of using social networking sites and age has a significant association with the number of times of accessing social networking sites per day.Item AN ANALYTICAL STUDY ON MOVEMENTS OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES IN INDIA(Emperor international journal of finance and management research, 2018-03) D, Vijayalakshmi; S, MonicaIn India after economic reforms, there was a development in the external sector of the economy because of the growth in the accumulation of Foreign exchange reserves in the country. India holds adequate foreign exchange reserves to meet the external shocks prevailing in the economy. Foreign exchange reserves are accumulated to meet the external debt of the country, merchandise trade operational activities and to reduce the volatility of the currency fluctuations. In this background there is a need to study the movements of foreign exchange reserves. The study focuses on the following objectives-i)To study the trend and growth of the foreign exchange reserves and its elements such as special drawing rights(SDR),Gold, foreign currency assets(FCA) and reserve tranche position. ii)The study also identifies the factors determining the foreign exchange reserves in India. The variables considered for the study are GDP, Exports, Imports and Exchange rate. The study has covered a period of ten years from 2007-08 to 2016-17. The statistical tools such as Year over Year basis(YOY) growth rate, multiple correlation and regression have been applied to analyse the elements of foreign exchange reserves and its economic factors.Item CASUAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATES ON GOLD AND CRUDE OIL PRICES IN INDIA(International journal of emerging technologies and innovative research, 2019-04) D, Vijayalakshmi; S, MonicaThe Exchange rates plays a pivotal role in international trade, foreign exchange transactions, balance of payment and enhances the economic health. The movement in exchange rate is affected by several macro economic variables, such as, interest rate, inflation rate, money supply and national income. In India, Rupee has experienced the trend of depreciation against foreign currencies due to rise in imports of petroluem products. The increase in imports of the goods has created a demand for the foreign currency in the country. India imports more of gold and crude oil products, where it has an impact on the current account deficit in the Indian economy. With this background this paper focuses on the casual relationship between exchange rate, gold prices and crude oil prices for the period of five years from 2013-14 to 2017-18. The tools, namely, Unit root test, Granger casuality test, Correlation and Regression analysis have been applied in the study to analyse the data. The profit earning companies can easily add more debt in their capital structure. Diversified sector is a capital intensive sector, where greater prominence has been given in designing the capital structure. Hence, the present paper makes an attempt to examine the impact of leverage on profitability of diversified sector for the period 1995-96 to 2009-10. A panel data approach has been applied to analyse the data. Miscellaneous Manufacturing sector is a capital intensive sector, where greater emphasis has been given in designing the capital structure. Hence, the present paper makes an attempt to examine the impact of leverage on shareholder value creation of Indian miscellaneous manufacturing sector for the period 1995-96 to 2009-10. A panel data approach has been applied to analyse the data. India is basically an agricultural economy. Food and beverage sector plays a pivotal role in the economic development of a nation. In this backdrop, the study makes an attempt to identify and analyse the determinants of leverage of Indian Food and Beverage sector for the period 1995-96 to 2009-10. Year wise analysis, summary statistics and a panel data approach have been applied to analyse the data. In this backdrop, the study makes an attempt to identify and analyse the determinants of leverage of Indian Transport Equipment sector. Year wise analysis, summary statistics and a panel data approach have been applied to analyse the data. Now-a-days, women are balance both home and work like there are less space for them to spend time to make purchases decision . Digital advertising helps the women consumers to take decision regarding of purchase products & services.Item FDI - A CONSTITUENT OF INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND ITS IMPACT ON INDIAN STOCK MARKET(Online Research Book Publication, 2019-02) D, Vijayalakshmi; Shalini K MenonInternational financial management has been gaining significance over the years with the increase in the flow of currencies across borders. The movement in currencies results from import, export and from direct investments made in the form of wholly owned subsidiaries or joint ventures. The inward and outward foreign investments have an impact on the domestic stock market and it results in its overall economic growth. However a well developed stock market is dependent on several macroeconomic and institutional variables. This paper examines the impact of FDI inflow and outflow on the stock market development in India from 2004 to 2017. Market capitalization has been employed as a proxy variable to measure the stock market development. ADF test, Johansen’s co-integration test and VECM have been applied in the study. The results of the study have indicated the existence of long run causality between the variables.Item FINANCIAL INCLUSION AND ITS IMPACT ON SLUM DWELLERS IN COIMBATORE CITY(INTERCONTINENTAL JOURNAL OF FINANCE RESEARCH REVIEW, 2017-10) D, VijayalakshmiThe financial system in India has grown rapidly in the last three decades. The functional and geographical coverage of the system is truly impressive, but still a significant portion of the households remain outside the coverage of the formal banking sector. The essence of financial inclusion is to ensure that a range of appropriate banking and financial services is available to every individual enabling them to understand and access those services. The objectives of the study are to assess the socio economic conditions and the level of financial inclusion among slum dwellers in the central zone of the Coimbatore city and to examine the impact of financial inclusion on slum dwellers and their level of satisfaction towards financial inclusion products and services. A sample of 100 households has been taken for the study by adopting convenient sampling technique. Percentage analysis and chi –square analysis have been applied to analyse the data. The study has concluded that the opening of BSBD account by slum dwellers has enhanced their saving habit, purchasing power and investment pattern, which helps them to increase their standard of living. The findings of the study have endorsed that nearly 47 female slum dwellers have opened BSBD account in banks, which shows the accomplishment of gender equity. It assists them to obtain information regarding academic matters and also to build cordial relationship with teachers and class mates. A sample of 200 respondents from 10 arts and science colleges has been taken for the study by adopting convenience sampling technique. The statistical tools, such as, percentage analysis, Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and t- test have been applied to analyse the data. The study has concluded that the majority of the students are belongs to the age of 20 years and they are using social networking sites daily. The study factors, such as, numbers of years of using social networking sites, usage of social networking sites and usage of social networking sites per day have a significant difference with the students’ perception. Lean manufacturing techniques offers a proven method to reduce costs, eliminate waste, increase productivity, maintains high level of quality and also higher profit. It requires top-down commitment and bottom-up involvement. It offers tools to identify the different types of wastages and defects within the manufacturing operation and provide remedial steps to eliminate them. Hence, the study is proposed to understand the role and importance of lean manufacturing tools and techniques and the challenges faced by MSMEs in implementation of Lean manufacturing.Item ORGANIZED RETAIL STORES AND CONSUMERS: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY(International Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, 2018-09) D, Vijayalakshmi; D, PriyaThe Indian retail industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. It is an attractive market for retail investments and it contributes about 10 per cent to total GDP. The main objective of the study is to know the purchasing pattern and to analyse the factors that influence the consumers to purchase in organized retail stores. A sample of 400 respondents has been taken for the study by adopting stratified random sampling method. The study is mainly based on primary data. The data have been collected through questionnaire in Coimbatore. The statistical tools such as percentage analysis, chi-square and Kendall’s coefficient of concordance have been applied to analyse the data. The study has concluded that the factors such as quality of products, price, availability of products, discounts/offers, selfservice and store reputation have influenced the consumers to prefer the organized retail stores. The study has also revealed that among the demographic factors, occupational status and family monthly income have played a vital role in determining their purchasing pattern.Item ROLE OF MSME’S IN ECONOMIC GROWTH OF INDIA(International Journal of Commerce and Management Research, 2016-12) D, Vijayalakshmi; G R, RajalakshmiMicro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has emerged as a highly vibrant and the dynamic sector of the Indian economy over the last six decades. MSMEs not only play a crucial role in providing large employment opportunities at comparatively lower capital cost than large industries but also help in industrialization of rural and backward areas, thereby, reducing regional imbalances, assuring more equitable distribution of national income and wealth. As per the quick estimates of fourth All-India Census of MSMEs, the number of enterprises is estimated to be about 26 million and these provide employment to an estimated 60 million persons. Of the 26 million MSMEs, only 1.5 million are in the registered segment while the remaining 24.5 million (94%) are in the unregistered segment. The Indian economy is expected to grow by over 8 per cent per annum until 2020 and can become the second largest in the world, ahead of the United States, by 2050, and the third largest after China and the United States by 2032. The social networking sites, such as, face book, twitter, linkedin, google plus, etc., offers the scope for connecting the people at worldwide and receive updates at any time. It helps the people to create online profile and share information with any person at global level. It assists the students to obtain information regarding purchasing of product, academic matters, and to build cordial relationship with friends, relatives and class mates. They used to spend elongated period of time in chatting with friends, uploading of images and photos etc.. A sample of 1000 respondents from 48 arts and science colleges in Coimbatore district has been taken for the study by adopting quota sampling technique. The statistical tools, such as, percentage analysis, Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and t- test have been applied to analyse the data. The study has concluded that the majority of the students are aware about face book, you tube and instagram. They are highly aware about chatting, message texting, uploading of photos and videos, building of group conversation etc.. They have strongly agreed that social networking sites helps to connect the people at worldwide and eliminates the distance barriers. The demographic factor, namely, age has a significant difference with the students’ perception score. The proper usage of social networking sites by the students community may enhance their knowledge, skill and attitude.Item STOCK MARKET INDICES AND ITS IMPACT ON THE OUTWARD FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN FINANCIAL, BUSINESS AND INSURANCE SERVICES IN INDIA(Journal of Management and Research Analysis- Innovative Publication, 2019-01) D, Vijayalakshmi; Shalini K MenonOutward foreign direct investment in the service sector has shown a tremendous improvement in terms of magnitude over the years. This paper examines the impact of stock market indices, such as, SENSEX and Nifty on the outward foreign direct investments in the financial, business and insurance services in India. The monthly data for the study has been collected for a period of five years from 2013-2018 from RBI database and other secondary sources. ADF test, Johansen’s co-integration test and VECM have been employed to analyse the data. The findings of the study have indicated that the existence of a long run relationship between the variables proves that the development of the domestic stock market would helps to increase OFDI in the financial, business and insurance services in the long run.Item A STUDY ON CUSTOMER BASED BRAND EQUITY OF TWO WHEELERS IN SOUTH COIMBATORE(GITAM Journal of Management, 2016-07) D, Vijayalakshmi; D, Priya; M, Shantha KumariCustomer-based brand equity is a way of assessing the value of a brand in customers' minds. Branding can increase profitability in large and small-scale businesses by filling in gaps in customers' knowledge and by offering assurances. The concept of customer brand equity is considered to discuss how it can be dealt, with measured and managed. Hence, an attempt has been made in this study to evaluate the consumer 25 based brand equity of famous and top selling brands of two wheelers, such as, Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj and Yamaha in South Coimbatore. The research issues are factors' determining the selection of a brand of two wheelers and the level of satisfaction towards customer-based brand equity of two wheelers. The study concludes that the top most brand equity in the market for two wheelers are Honda followed by, TVS and Yamaha brand. India is the fifth largest preferred retail destination globally. The country is among the highest in the world in terms of per capita retail store availability. India’s retail sector is experiencing exponential growth, with retail development taking place not just in major cities and metros, but also in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. Healthy economic growth, changing demographic profile, increasing disposable incomes, urbanization, changing consumer tastes and preferences are the other factors driving growth in the organized retail market in India. It is the entry of bringing the next revolution after the IT sector. In the world of highly competitive environment, the retailers are now offering not only the products but also the service. Therefore the purpose of the study is to examine the perception level of service quality offered by organized retail stores.
