dc.description.abstractPhthalates are one of the additives used during plastic manufacturing, which acts as endocrine disruptors. When plastics are exposed to different types of stresses, they have the tendency for phthalates to leach out from the plastic bottles into the water. PAEs are known to cause different disorders in humans of all ages. In this regard, there is a need to study the amount of the PAEs in bottled water. The aim of the study was to determine the concentrations of PAEs in five different commercial bottled waters bought from the local markets and to estimate the health risk of these additives due to the water intake by humans. The major PAEs studied in this study include dibutyl phthalate (DBP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), di-ethyl hexyl phthalate (DEHP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP) and di-ethyl phthalate (DEP). The results indicated the presence of PAEs in trace amounts, which are not harmful to humans as they are present under the permissible levels.
