    HEALTH PROBLMES AMONG MIGRANT WORKERS IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

    Labour migration is an important and necessary livelihood strategy for millions of individual and households throughout India. Migration has become a way of life to many, who are unskilled and semi skilled and find difficult to get better jobs within their natives and locality. Most of the poor people migrating to cities and towns join one or another informal sector activity either in wage employment or self-employment. The unorganized sector, now being referred as informal economy at global forums, is understood to be outside the world of regular, stable and protected employment which means that the workers in this economy are not recognized, regulated or protected by the existing legal and regulatory frameworks. Construction is a fundamental, integral part of economic development and provides many of the materials benefit of progress: housing, schools, hospitals, transport, infrastructure, irrigation schemes, power stations, industrial plant, etc. The generation of largest scale employment is a significant aspect of construction work for both male and female workers. Construction workers are unskilled and illiterate workers, which make them very vulnerable to exploitation. The main occupational health problems in the construction industry are back injuries from carrying heavy loads, respiratory disease from inhaling dust, musculoskeletal disorders, noise-induced hearing loss and skin problems. With this background the present study is been carried out in order to examine the health problems among migrant women workers of sample size 110 employed in construction sectors in India with special concentration on Coimbatore region of Tamil Nadu.

    Migration is being a crucial problem in the present economy. In spite of their problem migration is very much needed in a country for its development. As compared to that of international migration even internal migration is now having its growth rapidly. This paper is framed to understand if there is role of gender and remittance behavior of migrant workers. For this purpose the study has been conducted among 100 migrant workers who were employed in various jobs into garment unity of Tirupur district. And this study also makes suggestions and recommendations that are to be followed to maintain gender equality among the migrant workers

    A STUDY ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACT ON MIGRATION

    In the present world climate change is been increasing in tremendous speed and it is very clearly visible to all. And various studies have been carried by researchers and scientist on the climate change process but very less of them concentrate on the impact of such climate change on migration. Generally climate change will make the population to migrate because it will affect the place in a such a way that it will make the world hard for living by causing food and water supplies to become more unreliable and also it will increase the frequency of disaster common. Agriculture is one of the most necessary activities that are very much needed for mankind as without food living of human becomes very difficult. But with this change in the climatic condition now a day’s agricultural labour are facing it difficult to depend on agriculture for their livelihood. This is being one of the main reasons for them to migrate to urban areas and indulge them into some other works for money. The present study is been made to understand the impact of climate change on the labour force which makes to migrate in search of other employment. With this background the present study is been carried out among 100 migrant sample respondents working in Tirupur District. Various questions on the reasons for migration, problems of migration and migration pattern has been asked to the respondents and the result are been analyzed.

    Human migration entails movement of people from one locality or location to another, sometimes over long distances and in large groups. Migration of people occurs for various reasons: exodus during ethnic conflict, natural disaster, political instability, economic hardship as well as search for economic and social improvement, betterment of livelihood and so on. Migration is not a recent phenomenon. For centuries, even during pre-historic times, there are evidences of people moving from one region to other. People moved across length and breadth of a country, at times across borders for social economic and political reasons. Human rights are considered to be the general moral principles or norms which describe certain standard of human behavior and are regularly protected as legal rights in laws. Every human are been to enjoy certain rules and freedom in their life. But, in some circumstances the rights of the human are been violated. Garment Production, is termed as a manufacture and processing of knitwear products or merchandise, including its design, treatment at various stages, and financial services contributed by bankers. Tirupur and Chennai in Tamil Nadu are the bastion of garment export oriented industries, of which the former is the prominent one. Migrant populace from various parts of Tamil Nadu and other states get employed throng Tirupur region, since the region wants those indigent and unskilled workers for its knitwear and its ancillary industries. And now days a large number of northern people are found to migrate and find their employment in the garment sector of Tirupur Districts by various agents and brokers. This particular study is about to examine the “Human Rights Violation on Migrant Workers: A Study on Migrant Workers Employed in Garment Industries of Tirupur District”. The study is been conducted among 100 migrant sample respondents employed in various industries in Tirupur District.

    Global climate change is being a hot debate in the present modernized world. Everywhere in the world all countries are facing rise in temperature in the atmosphere due to which there is high fluctuation in the rainfall, decreasing of ground water, flood during high rainfall, drought, soil erosion, heavy wind, rising of sea level, melting of glacier etc. even though it is been seen as natural factor even humans contribution is being large in number. With this kind of climate change there is large and dangerous effect on the agriculture of the world. Agriculture is one of the most necessary activities that are very much needed for mankind as without food living of human becomes very difficult. But with this change in the climatic condition now a day’s agricultural labour are facing it difficult to depend on agriculture for their livelihood. This is being one of the main reasons for them to migrate to urban areas and indulge them into some other works for money. This present study is been made in order to analyze the impact of climate change on the migrant labors who are been employed in garment industries with special concentration to Tirupur district. Data`s pertaining to the study was collected from 100 migrant workers randomly.

    A STUDY ON WOMEN MIGRATION INTO GARMNET INDUSTRIES OF TIRUPUR DISTRICT

    Migration of women is certainly not a new trend, but it has only just begun to be recognized more widely. Women currently make up around half of the world‘s estimated 210 million international migrants. Women – old or young, single or married, with or without their families – are increasingly moving across national borders in an effort to improve their own and their family‘s wellbeing. Despite the diversity of women‘s migration patterns, their manifold reasons and causes for moving, women‘s labour migration stimulated by large economic and social inequalities in the world is becoming ever more significant. This study is been conducted to understand the reason behind migration and their living, working conditions at the place of destination and the problems faced by the migrant women who are employed in Garment industries of the Tirupur district. ―The expansion of women‘s capabilities not only enhances women‘s own freedom and well being but also has many other effects on the lives of all. Among the major destinations for young women are the garment, textile and footwear factories in the cities and in recently established industrial zones

    The current study has found that the main reason of migration is for the development of the family which is very much necessary for the development of the economy. And the migration is mainly taking place for improving their family status and getting good employment opportunity. And even though the migrants are having better living condition while compare to that at their place of origin their quality of life index is not satisfactory. So it is alarming situation for the policy makers to see for the improvement in the quality index of migrant workers.

    A STUDY ON WORKING AND LIVING CONDITION OF MIGRANT WORKERS IN GARMENT INDUSTRY

    Migration is considered as the geographic mobility or the process of movement of people from one place to another. Garment Industry in India plays a vital role in the development of the country. India stands second largest textile fiber producer in the world and it is the largest cotton and jute producer. Nearly nine garment industries in tones of fiber production are carried out in India every year due to which it stands as the second largest textile manufacturing in the global level. Large mass of migrants finds employment at the garments hub in India. There is need of study to be made to examine the living and working condition of the migrant labour at the place of their destination to examine the problems they face and to find if they are happy and satisfied after their migration process. The study has found that even after migration the quality of the migrants have not shown much improvement. Though the working conditions were satisfactory, yet none of the migrants live in own houses. Migrants of the current study have restricted access to basic needs, social entitlements and housing.

    DETERMINANTS OF REMITTANCES BY THE MIGRANT LABOURERS EMPLOYED IN GARMENTS SECTOR OF TIRUPUR DISTRICT

    Internal Migration is becoming one of the important factors in development of developing countries. People are migrating from rural area to urban area in order to seek better working condition. People migrate both for economic as well as for non-economic reasons. People when migrate; leave some of their family members behind them in the place of origin. Hence, whatever they earn in their place of destination, they save a part of it and send it to their members in the place of destination for varied reasons. Remittance is generally defined as the money that is been transmitted by the migrant workers to their households in the place of origin. This money is been used by the family members in their origin for asset accumulation, maintenance of expenditure, investment in profitable ventures. It acts as one of the major financial support for the migrant‟s family in their origin. Remittance plays an important role in the development of socio-economic status of the left behind families of the migrant peoples
