    Leadership is a complex phenomenon that touches on many other important organizational, social and personal processes. The focus on women leadership has grown recently, due to the fundamental gains women have achieved in the workplace. At the same time there is a scarcity of women leaders and women in senior management positions who could be taking up leadership roles. The present study analysed how the demographic and socio economic factors influence on psychological empowerment of women in leadership. The results show that there is significant difference between total experience and psychological empowerment. It helps to understand thepsychological empowerment of women leaders towards their work.

    In the current scenario, women are better positioned than ever before to raise leadership roles in the India's corporate world. Simultaneously, there is a paucity of women leaders and women in senior management positions who could be taking up leadership positions later and thus it is the right time to address the issue of women leadership and encourage and support women to take up leadership roles. The present study analysed how demographic factors influence on career strategies adopted to overcome the barriers among women leaders in their leadership positions. Companies have taken many kinds of support structures in the working places, such as various career strategies for increase the number of women at the top positions.

    The development for women leaders in India's corporate world,due to the fundamental gains women have achieved in the workplace.There has been a progress in the women holding senior and leading positions around the world in comparison with previous years. There is a scarcity of women leaders and women in senior management positions who could be taking up leadership positions later and thus it is the right time to address the issue of women leadership and encourage and support women to take up leadership roles. The study primarily focuses women leadership in Information Technology and identifying the strength of women leaders. It seems today women are better positioned than ever before to rise to leadership roles in technology.

    Women leaders play an increasing and significant role in today’s economy. Their income and spending capacity are critical to the country's economic well-being. Most of the corporate companies hire men for the top positions. The fundamental structure of patriarchal society depends upon the understanding that male are superior, more powerful, and that they represent the “norm,” whereas women are considered as inferior; they lack in power and autonomy. The power of socialization that underlies this system cannot be ignored. In fact, gender related patriarchal values are so deeply ingrained in society's consciousness that they are largely invisible. Thus, women are more likely than men to encounter negative expectations and reactions, making it more difficult for them to reach positions of respect, influence, and leadership. In this study the barriers faced by women leaders in job related stress, gender related barrier and work life balance and how these type of psychological barriers affects women leaders in their workplace.

    The present study discusses about the socio-psychological barriers faced by women leaders in their organization i.e.; job related stress, gender related barrier, glass ceiling, socio cultural beliefs and how they affect the leadership position. The study was conducted among 75 women leaders in IT company’s and the results of the study shows that socio-psychological barriers faced by women in leadership in IT sector arises due to work life balance.

Women face difficulties in balancing family responsibilities, handling domestic chores in addition to managing career and to succeed on both the personal and professional fronts. Women outface in straddling the two worlds of work and home is to be given a thought and better understood. The role of women in the family and other social relationships influence her personality. The present study reveals the critical aspects associated with women leadership. The present study will discuss about some of the barriers (Managerial gender role stereotyping, Work life balance, Glass ceiling, Stress and Cross cultural barriers) and how they affect women in leadership

Education in India has always been a significant instrument for social and economic transformation. Leadership emphasizes teamwork, collaboration and solidarity and removing barriers to communication and original thinking. Leadership, with its varied definitions, is one of the most studied fields in the social sciences. It has gained importance in every walk of life, from politics to business, and from education to social organizations. Academic leadership as whole is an evolving concept across the globe. India's higher education system is the third largest in the world, next to United States and China. So the need of the hour is to build academic leadership. The paper focuses on the necessity of academic leadership; identifies the skills required for effective academic leadership and the means to achieve and develop; addresses the challenges; involves support required for mentoring of academic leadership and analyses the reasons of refusal for leadership

    This paper is a study of leadership research, focusing primarily on socio- psychological barriers among women in leadership. Economic empowerment of women is very important for the development of a nation. Now a day socio-psychological barriers play a major role in the women leadership. Some of the barriers of women leaders are facing managerial sex role stereotyping, work life balance, glass ceiling, cross cultural barriers. Coping strategies such as participatory leadership, determination to succeed, mentoring subordinates and delegation of power, continuous learning and planning served as support that strengthened these women against much of the difficulties they encountered in their professional roles. This paper mainly focuses on various socio-psychological barriers among women leaders and recommends strategies for removal of these obstructions to women leaders.
