Weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were employed. Impedance measurements showed that the charge transfer resistance increased and double layer capacitance decreased with increase in the inhibitor concentration. Potentiodynamic polarization study showed that the inhibitor acted as mixedtype inhibitors in all the three acids.Item SYNTHESIS AND CORROSION INHIBITION STUDY OF BENZOTHIAZEPINE DERIVATIVES ON MILD STEEL IN ACID MEDIUM(Oriental Journal of Chemistry, 2016-04-12) Sasikala, T; Parameswari, K; Chitra, S2-ethoxy-4-(4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepin-2-yl) phenol (EPBTZ) and 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepine (MPPBTZ) were synthesized by the condensation reaction between o-aminothiophenol and chalcone. The synthesized benzothiazepines were characterized by FTIR spectra. Their corrosion inhibition property on mild steel in sulphuric acid medium was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical techniques. Scanning electron microscopic studies were employed to examine the surface morphology of the inhibited and uninhibited metal samples. The compound EPBTZ revealed good corrosion protection property than MPPBTZ at all the temperatures studied. Electrochemical studies showed that the inhibitors behave as mixed type inhibitor retarding both cathodic and anodic corrosion reaction by forming an adsorbed protective layer.Item CORRELATION BETWEEN INHIBITION EFFICIENCY AND CHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF NEW INDOLO IMIDAZOLINE ON THE CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN MOLAR HCL WITH DFT EVIDENCES(Oriental Journal of Chemistry, 2015-06-12) Sowmya, Ramkumar; Nalini, DThe present work aims at the synthesis, characterization and study on the inhibitive effect of indoloimidazoline derivative (DI) on mild steel in 1M HCl. Weight loss measurement and electrochemical AC and DC corrosion monitoring techniques are performed at 308 K using mild steel specimens immersed in 1M HCl in the presence and absence of DI. Polarisation curves indicated that DI acted as a mixed type inhibitor. The indoloimidazoline derivative having nitrogen atoms in its molecular structure are adsorbed on the metal surface through these active centres and that the extent of inhibition is directly related to the formation of the adsorption layer according to Langmuir isotherm model on the mild steel surface which is sensitive function of the molecular structure. Quantum chemical calculations performed using DFT B3LYP 6-31G (d, p) basis set within the program Gaussian 09 showed the adsorption sites for DI on mild steel. Experimental and theoretical findings agreed well with each other.Item INVESTIGATION OF THE INHIBITIVE EFFECT OF 1,8- NAPHTHYRIDINE DERIVATIVES ON CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIA(Rasayan Journal of Chemistry, 2013-03) Kalaiselvi, K; Nijarubini, V; Mallika, JIn the present investigation 1,8-naphthyridine compounds have been synthesized and its inhibition action on the corrosion of mild steel in 1M HCl was investigated by corrosion weight loss test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization and solution analysis techniques (AAS). Polarization measurementsclearly indicate that the examined compounds acts as mixed inhibitors and the inhibition efficiency increases with inhibitor concentration. Changes in the impedance parameters (Rct and Cdl) are indicative of the adsorption of naphthyridine compounds on the metal surface, leading to the formation of protective film. Solution analyses were carried out by atomic absorption spectroscopy, which shows decreased dissolution of iron in the presence of inhibitors. Physical adsorption is proposed for the inhibition and the process followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.Item SYNTHESIS AND CORROSION INHIBITION STUDY OF BENZOTHIAZEPINE DERIVATIVES ON MILD STEEL IN ACID MEDIUM(Oriental Journal of Chemistry, 2016-04-12) Sasikala, T; Parameswari, K; Chitra, S2-ethoxy-4-(4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepin-2-yl) phenol (EPBTZ) and 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepine (MPPBTZ) were synthesized by the condensation reaction between o-aminothiophenol and chalcone. Quantum chemical parameters most relevant to their potential action as corrosion inhibitors have been calculated in the non-protonated and protonated forms in aqueous phase for comparison. Results obtained in this study indicate thatin acidic media, both the protonated and non-protonated forms of the azoles represent the better actual experimental situation.Item ADSORPTION AND INHIBITIVE PROPERTIES OF TRIAZOLOPYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES IN ACID CORROSION OF MILD STEEL(Hindawi, 2011) Parameswari, K; Chitra, S; Kavitha, S; Rajpriya, J; Selvaraj, AInhibitive and adsorption properties of synthesized triazolo- pryimidine derivatives (P1, P2 & P3 ) for the corrosion of mild steel was investigated using weight loss and electrochemical methods. Inhibition efficiency increased as the concentration of the inhibitor increased but decreased with increase in temperature. The triazolopyrimidines were found to act as adsorption inhibitors for the corrosion of mild steel. The adsorption mechanism of the triazolopyrimidine was found to be physisorption, spontaneous and exothermic. Also the adsorption followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. polarisation studies showed that the inhibitors behave as cathodic type.Item ORTHO-CHLOROPHENYL-2-IMIDAZOLINE AS CORROSION INHIBITOR FOR MILD STEEL IN ACIDIC MEDIA(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2011) Nalini, D; Rajalakshmi, RPresent study involved the synthesis of o-chlorophenyl-2-imidazoline (OCP2I) and its inhibition behaviour on mild steel corrosion in sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid media, using weight loss method and electrochemical methods. The results of weight loss method revealed that the inhibitor shows a maximum efficiency of 84.55 % in H2SO4 at 200 ppm and 91.42 % in HCl medium at 120 ppm of concentration. Thermodynamic parameters indicated physisorption mode of adsorption of o-chlorophenyl-2-imidazoline follows Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherms. Potentiodynamic polarization and impedance studies were conducted to investigate the mechanism of the inhibition and the present system follows mixed mode of inhibition
