    A STUDY ON NON-FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS' SUPPORT TO WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN COIMBATORE

    Institutional support for women entrepreneurs has been a channelised support mechanism organized by the governments or by voluntary associations. Supporting women in their business endeavourshas been the major goal of these institutions. The present study is made to find out the role of non-financial institutions in supporting and encouraging women entrepreneurs in Coimbatore. The study is based on primary data collected from 300 women entrepreneurs in Coimbatore who have availed support from the select non-financial institutions. Simple random sampling technique has been applied and the data have been analyzed using the statistical tools like simple percentage analysis, descriptive statistical tool viz., mean and standard deviation, ANOVA and t-Test to reveal the results of the study. It has been found that the non-financial institutions have mostly offered planning support to the respondents whereas production/ rendering service and marketing support have not been sufficiently offered by these institutions

    FAMILY SUPPORT TO WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN COIMBATORE - AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

    After 66 years of independence, India is still a patriarchal society. It is difficult for women to escape from the clutches of their counterparts and excel in career. Inspite of all the obstacles from within and outside her home woman has proved her talents in all the fields - education, business, politics, space, research, etc., but, the number counts relatively lesser than men. The progress of women from home-maker to an economic activist is required for the progress of Indian economy as a whole. During the last two decades, owing to the change in the attitude of the society and unstable economic conditions in the country which have resulted in increasing need of monetary support paved way for the emergence of women entrepreneurs. The present study has been conducted to understand the socio-economic background & business profile of the women entrepreneurs in Coimbatore and to analyse the extent of family support for women entrepreneurs. A sample of 300 women entrepreneur respondents who have availed support from financial and non-financial institutions have been selected by applying simple random sampling technique. Primary data collected from the respondents have been analysed using simple percentage analysis. The result of the study has suggested that majority of the women entrepreneurs have a supportive family who help them in their business activities.

    WORKING WOMEN’S OPINION ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP – AN EMPIRICAL STUDY IN COIMBATORE

    Entrepreneurship is a vital input to industrial development which leads to the development of the nation. Entrepreneurship which is an economic movement has been initially dominated by men all over the globe. In recent time owing to the change in the society few women have taken up entrepreneurship as their career. On the other hand owing to societal constraints and personal life obstacles many women are found to engage themselves as employees in some organization. The present study aims to identify the working women’s opinion on entrepreneurship and to find out the significant difference in their opinion based on socio-economic profile and their interest to become an entrepreneur. A sample of 150 working women in Coimbatore have been randomly selected as samples and primary data have been collected from them using a questionnaire. The data collected have been analysed using the statistical tools namely average score analysis, ANOVA and t-test. The results of the study show that irrespective of their socio-economic profile and their interest towards becoming an entrepreneur all the respondents have a positive opinion on entrepreneurship. Hence it has been suggested that special interest may be shown on working women to encourage them to become entrepreneurs.

    PROBLEMS FACED BY WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS – PERCEPTION OF WORKING WOMEN IN COIMBATORE

    The empowerment of women indicates women gaining control over their own lives. It involves building self-confidence, increasing access to and control over resources. Working women population in India is showing an increasing trend but the transformation of working women into women entrepreneurs is a very rare case. In order to know the working women’s interest in becoming entrepreneurs and to find out their opinion on the various problems faced by women entrepreneurs the present study has been conducted. A sample of 150 working women in Coimbatore have been identified and primary data have been collected from them using a structured questionnaire. The data have been analysed using the statistical tools namely simple percentage analysis and ANOVA. The overall results show that most of the respondents are not interested to take up entrepreneurship as their career and the mean opinion scores on problems faced by women entrepreneurs reveal that majority of the respondents feel that problems faced by women as entrepreneurs are many.

    OPINION OF WOMEN STUDENTS ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS PROGRAMMES – AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

    The pace and pattern of development of any country largely depend upon the quality and growth of its entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs need not necessarily be born; they can be developed through programmes organized for motivation, training and assistance. The present study is made to find out the impact of entrepreneurship awareness programmes on women students and their interest to become an entrepreneur. The study is based on primary data collected from 60 students at a women’s college in Coimbatore who have attended the entrepreneurship awareness programmes. Simple random sampling technique was applied and the data have been analyzed using the statistical tools like average score analysis, ANOVA and t-test to reveal the results of the study. The students are of the opinion that entrepreneurship awareness programmes conducted in the college has motivated them to become an entrepreneur in future.
