Entrepreneurship is a wise answer to solve the unemployment, migration and to promote economic and social development in rural areas. The strengthening of the rural villages will encourage the preservation of natural resources and improve the rural economy. There exist a wide gap between rural and urban areas in terms of infrastructure, market and financial access. To reduce the disparities, revitalizing the rural economy can be achieved by establishing entrepreneurial ventures in rural areas. Rising rural incomes will have a multiplier effect by raising the demand for farm and non-farm products and services instigating growth of employment opportunities. Government of India has been continuously assigning increasing importance and support for the promotion and growth of rural entrepreneurship. The obstacles for growth of rural entrepreneurship are literacy, risk aversion, lack of skilled labour, less technical knowhow, limited access to essential services, lack of communication facilities. It can effectively generate employment and sustain the income of the households by giving them opportunities of work. During the past 25 years, the microfinance movement has challenged the conventional financial sector. Today the microfinance is very much in the agenda of public policy and it has been increasingly used as a vehicle to reach entrepreneurial goals. Microfinance in India is represented by Self Help Group(SHGs) which are linked to banks mainly women as its members. Microfinance is the provision that provides access to various financial services such as credit, savings, micro insurance, remittances, leasing to low-income clients including consumers and the self employed, who traditionally lack access to banking and related services. Digital revolution, also known as ‘The Internet Economy’ or Internet o Everything (IoE), is expected to generate new market growth opportunities, jobs and become the biggest business opportunity of mankind in the next 30 to 40 years. The current study on usage of digital modes for financial transactions – with special reference towards women students in Coimbatore has made an attempt to study the usage of digital modes and to know about the difficulties faced in such usage by the respondents. Primary data have been collected from 100 women students who are pursuing commerce degree at various colleges in Coimbatore. Data have been collected during February 2017. Descriptive statistical tool, percentage analysis and inferential statistical tools have been employed to analyze the primary data collected for study purpose. Sample for the study has been chosen by using convenience sampling technique. It has been found that majority of the students have not yet started using digital modes other than debit/credit card for financial transaction.
