Item BIG FIVE PERSONALITY AND OCCUPATIONAL STRESS AMONG THE MANAGERIAL PERSONNEL OF AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY(Pratibimba, Volume 14(1), Year 2014, Pages 23-30, 2014) Paramanandam P; RadhamaniStress arises when individuals perceive that they cannot adequately cope with the demands being made on them or with threats to their well being. The present study was aimed at studying the big five personality traits and occupational stress among the managerial personnel of automobile industry. A convenience sample consisting of thirty two managerial personnel working in automobile industry participated in the study. Questionnaires were administered to assess big five personality traits and occupational stress among the managers. The collected data was analysed with mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression. Results indicated that there was a significant correlation between occupational stress and extraversion; stress and agreeableness; stress and conscientiousness; and stress and openness. Approximately sixty five per cent of the variance of occupational stress was explained by the big five personality traits extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience.Item COPING STRATEGIES ADOPTED BY THE MANAGERIAL PERSONNEL OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY(Carmel Journal of Management Research, Volume 1 (2), Year 2013, Pages 68-83, 2013) Paramanandam P; ShenbhagavadivuAbstract: Coping consists of both cognitive and behavioral efforts aimed at managing specific external and /or internal demands appraised as taxing or exceeding the resources of the person. In the present study an attempt was made to study the coping strategies adopted by the managerial personnel of textile industry. A convenience sample consisting of sixty managers working in Textile industry participated in the study. By administering questionnaires coping strategies adopted by the managers were assessed. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, ANOVA, and Correlation. Significant differences were observed in the coping strategies adopted by managers of different age, gender, education, marital status and number of dependents groups.Item CREATIVITY AMONG ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE STUDENTS(GIM Journal of Management, Volume 2(2), Year 2012, 2012) Paramanandam PCreativity and innovation are critical competencies for 21st-century organizations seeking to lead or adapt to change. The present study was aimed at studying creativity among the arts and science college students. A convenience sample consisting of seventy five college students participated in the study. By administering questionnaires, the level of creativity among the students was assessed. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, ANOVA, Correlation and Regression tests. A higher level of environment score, instruction method score, personality score, parental support, confidence feedback and creativity was observed among the female respondents and among the science students. A higher level of environment score, instruction method score, confidence feedback score, and creativity were observed among the respondents with parents engaged in agriculture.Item EFFICACY OF YOGA IN MANAGING STRESS AMONG MIDDLE LEVEL MANAGERS OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY(Ushus Journal of Business Management, Volume 12(1), Year 2013, Pages 41-60, 2013) Paramanandam PJob stress is a condition arising from the interaction of people and their jobs and characterized by changes within people that force them to deviate from their normal functioning. High level of stress (distress) causes physiological, psychological, and behavioural problems. The present study was aimed at assessing the efficacy of yoga in managing stress among middle level managers of textile industry. Fifty four managers participated in the study. Among them 36 were randomly selected for the experimental group and the remaining 18 were treated as control group. The research design adopted for the present study was Pre and Post Experimental design with control group. In the before condition, managers’ psycho-physiological stress levels were measured. Then stress management intervention was administered to the experimental group for a period of 6 weeks. Managers’ psycho-physiological stress levels were measured after the treatment. Significant changes were observed in the experimental group after treatment in the areas of somatic symptoms, psychological symptoms, State anxiety, Trait anxiety, State anger, and Well being.Item EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AS A PREDICTOR OF JOB SATISFACTION AMONG THE EMPLOYEES OF A SHIPYARD.(Pratibimba, Volume 15(2), Year 2015, Pages 49-58, 2015) Paramanandam PEmotional intelligence (EI) involves the ability to monitor one’s own and others’ emotions, to discriminate among them, and to use the information to guide one’s thinking and actions (Peter Salovey and John Mayer, 1990). The present study was aimed at studying the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction among the employees of a shipyard. A convenience sample consisting of fifty employees working in a shipyard participated in the study. Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire was used to measure global trait intelligence which provides scores on four broader factors: well-being, self-control, emotionality, and sociability. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, Correlation, regression and ANOVA tests. Results indicated that approximately forty four per cent of the variance in job satisfaction was explained by emotional intelligence.Item AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION ON THE IMPACT OF ORGANIZATIONAL JUSTICE ON JOB SATISFACTION AMONG INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECTOR EMPLOYEES IN COIMBATORE CITY(Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research, Volume 6(6), Year 2019, Pages 330-335, 2019) Paramanandam PThe paper aims at studying the impact of organizational justice on job satisfaction of employees working in Information Technology (IT) industry. The study was focussed on the IT sector employees working in Coimbatore city. A random sample of 95 employees participated in the study. Correlation and Regression tests were conducted to accept or reject the hypotheses proposed in the study. The results of the study showed that most of the employees want distributive justice, procedural justice, and interactional justice in the workplace to have satisfaction in their jobs. The results finally showed a positive correlation between organizational justice and job satisfaction.Item AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON OCCUPATIONAL STRESS AMONG THE EMPLOYEES OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY(Sumedha Journal of Management, Volume 1(4), Year 2012, 2012) Paramanandam PStress is a state of mind that reflects certain biochemical reactions in the human body and is projected by a sense of anxiety, tension and depression and is caused by such demands by the environmental forces or internal forces that cannot be met by the resources available to the person. The objective of this study was to identify the factors which cause stress among the employees of telecom industry and also differences in the level of stress among the respondents of different age, gender, education, experience, and income groups. A convenience sample consisting of 70 employees working in Telecom industry participated in the study. A structured, self-administered questionnaire with a 5 point Likert scale was used for data collection. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, ANOVA and Factor Analysis. A high level of stress was seen among the female respondents and a low level of stress among the male respondents. A high level of stress was seen among the diploma holders and a low level of stress among the post graduates. A high level of stress was seen among the freshers and a low level of stress in the above 10 years experience group. A high level of stress was seen among the respondents of below 10000 income group and a low level of stress in the above 20000 income group. Results of ANOVA test indicated that there were significant differences in the level of stress among the respondents belonging to different age, education, work experience and income groups. Sixteen variables in the data have been reduced to three factors and each factor has been given a name.Item HARDY PERSONALITY AND STATE ANXIETY AMONG THE MANAGERIAL PERSONNEL OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY(Journal of Contemporary Research in Management, Volume 7(4), Year 2012, Pages 17-26, 2012) Paramanandam P; JayanthiThe objective of the study was to study the relationship between hardiness and state anxiety. Hardiness encompasses three component traits - commitment, control and challenge. A convenience sample consisting of 60 managers working in Textile industry participated in the study. Questionnaires were used to assess hardiness and state anxiety. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, Correlation, regression and ANOVA tests. A high level of hardiness and a low level of anxiety were seen among the male respondents. A high level of hardiness and a low level of anxiety were seen among the Post graduate respondents. A low level of hardiness and a high level of anxiety were observed in the 21-30 years experience group. There is a significant difference in commitment, control, challenge, and anxiety among the respondents of different age groups and also different experience groups. There is a significant positive correlation between commitment and control and also between commitment and challenge. There is a significant negative correlation between anxiety and commitment and between anxiety and control and also between anxiety and challenge. Nearly seventy two percent of the variation in anxiety is affected by commitment, control and challenge (hardiness). Price defined turnover as the degree of individual movement across the membership boundary of a social system. Coimbatore is an industrial hub, a Detroit of the great country of India. The enterprising thirst has never seen a dip in the scale. The pump manufacturing industry in Coimbatore holds a major portion of the total Indian market share. To understand the real situation in the pump manufacturing companies based on the employee’s experience, whether the company takes initiative to properly recognize and promote the employees with respective designation and also is there any significant raise in their salary as per market situation that can adequately fulfil their livelihood. The aim is to study the relationship between organizational commitment and turnover intentions among employees of select pump manufacturing companies in Coimbatore. Both primary and secondary and data are used for data collection. From the total population 135 respondents are randomly selected for the study adopting simple random sampling method. Statistical tools such as percentage analysis, descriptive statistics, and correlation and regression analysis are used. It is clear that there is a significant low correlation between organisational commitment and turnover intentions. Regression results show the relationship between organizational commitment and turnover intentions is statistically significant. A sample of 64 managers participated in the study. Questionnaires were administered for data collection. Results indicated that there was a significant correlation between organisational justice and job satisfaction. This study attempted to assess the impact of perceived stress on job satisfaction among the school teachers of Pahang and Coimbatore and also compared the levels of perceived stress among the school teachers of Pahang and Coimbatore. Structured questionnaires were administered to assess the levels of perceived stress and job satisfaction among the teachers. Independent sample t-test was applied to test the equality of means. There was a significant difference in the level of perceived stress among the teachers of Pahang and Coimbatore. Teachers working in Coimbatore experience a higher level of perceived stress compared to teachers of Pahang. It is a measure of the degree to which situations in one’s life are appraised as stressful. Items were designed to assess how unpredictable, uncontrollable, and overloaded respondents find their lives to be. Organizational commitment encompassed three conceptually and empirically distinct dimensions, labeled affective, continuance, and normative commitment. There are many articles related to stress and commitment while this study stands unique to measure the perceived stress having impact on organizational commitment among select public sector bank employees. The sub constructs of organizational commitment are viz. Affective Commitment, Continuance Commitment and Normative Commitment and the researcher conducted the study in Coimbatore district. The objective of the study has been accomplished with the help of primary data collected from 118 public sector bank employees of Coimbatore engaged in different positions. The survey was conducted through a structured questionnaire. The total samples identified among public banks were 118 employees. The statistical tools used are Descriptive statistics viz. percentage, mean, range, standard deviation, correlation and regression. There was a significant correlation between trust and job satisfaction. Approximately sixty four per cent of the variance in job satisfaction was explained by trust.Item JOB EMBEDDEDNESS INFLUENCING TURNOVER INTENTIONS AMONG EMPLOYEES OF SELECT PUMP MANUFACTURING COMPANIES IN COIMBATORE(Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research, 2019) Paramanandam PThis research investigates the relationship between job embeddedness and turnover intention among employees working in select pump manufacturing companies in Coimbatore. Coimbatore is an industrial hub, a Detroit of the great country of India. The pump manufacturing industry in Coimbatore holds a major portion of the total Indian market share. In Coimbatore, labour market consists of different types of workers such as permanent wage workers, short term wage workers, disguised wage workers, dependent workers and the self-employed. Therefore, the objective is to analyze the relationship between job embeddedness and turnover intention of employees working in the select pump manufacturing companies in Coimbatore. Four hundred and sixty eight respondents from total population are selected randomly for the study. Tools used for analysis are descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis along with percentage analysis and for reliability Cronbach’s alpha are used. Summary of result shows, there is a significant correlation and relationship between 1) organization related embeddedness and turnover intention, 2) community related embeddedness and turnover intention; 3) family related embeddedness and turnover intention; 4) personal supervisory support and turnover intention and finally, 5) perceived external prestige and turnover intention to reject (H0a, H0b, H0c, H0d and H0e) null hypothesis. From the results, it is observed that perceived supervisory support and turnover intention (H02d) is found negatively related to reject null hypothesis at 10% level signifies, there is a need to improve supervisory support for employees of the select pump industry to avoid turnover intention.Item NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY AND PERCEIVED STRESS AMONG THE EMPLOYEES OF A SHIPYARD(Journal of Commerce and Management Research, Volume 3(3), Year 2012, Pages 35-45, 2012) Paramanandam PNarcissistic Personality is characterized by a long-standing pattern of grandiosity, an overwhelming need for admiration, and usually a complete lack of empathy toward others. The present study was aimed at studying the narcissistic personality and perceived stress among the employees of a Shipyard in Kerala. By administering questionnaires narcissistic personality and perceived stress among the employees were assessed. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, Correlation, and ANOVA tests. Results indicated a higher level of narcissism among the respondents of 30-40 years agegroup and a low level of narcissism among the above 40 years age group. A higher level ofstress and a low level of narcissism were observed among the female respondents. A high level of narcissism and a low level of stress were observed among the married respondents.There were significant differences in the level of stress among the respondents of different age, marital status and experience groups. There was a significant difference in the level of narcissism among the respondents of different gender. The present study was aimed at studying the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior among the employees of a shipyard. A convenience sample consisting of forty three employees working in a shipyard participated in the study. By administering questionnaires organizational citizenship behavior and job satisfaction among the employees were assessed. The collected data was analyzed with various statistical tools. Results indicated that there was a significant difference in job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior among the respondents of various age, gender, and income groups. There was a significant correlation between organizational citizenship behaviour and job satisfaction. Fourty six per cent of the variation in Organisationalcitizenshipbehaviourwasexplained by job satisfaction.Item ORGANISATIONAL COMMITMENT AND FUNCTIONAL ROLE STRESS.(Journal of Organisation and Human Behaviour, Volume 2(1), Year 2013, Pages 34-39, 2013) Paramanandam PAbstract: The purpose of this research was to study the relationship between the three components of organizational commitment, the relationship between organizational commitment and functional role stress and differences in the research variables among the respondents of different age, gender and income groups. A convenience sample consisting of 90 employees working in textile units participated in the study. By administering questionnaires the level of commitment and stress among the supervisors were assessed. The collected data was analysed with Mean, Standard Deviation, Correlation, ANOVA and Regression analysis. There was a significant difference in continuance commitment, normative commitment and functional role stress among the respondents of different age groups. There was a significant difference in affective commitment, normative commitment and functional role stress among the respondents of different income groups. There was a significant correlation between age and affective commitment and also age and normative commitment. There was a significant correlation between affective commitment and normative commitment. There was a significant correlation between continuance commitment and normative commitment. The affective, continuance and normative commitments do not predict functional role stress.
