Item EXTRACTION, CHARACTERIZATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF MICROPLASTICS FROM LANDFILL SOIL (Article)(Kalpana Corporation, 2025-01) Vinod, Veena; Amritha P.S; Harathi P.BRecently, landfills have become the major sink of all the microplastic waste and hazardous materials that adhere to their surfaces. Hence, it is of utmost importance to detect and estimate the presence of microplastics in landfills to ascertain the fate and impact of these pollutants on the terrestrial environment. Therefore, in this study, the soil samples were collected from seven points of landfills from three layers, extracted using a standard protocol, examined under a stereomicroscope and identified using ATR-FTIR analysis. The abundance of microplastic was high in layer 1 with 64%. Fragments and fibers were abundant in all three layers. The microplastic of size range 0-1 mm were predominantly found in all the layers. Colours, such as white, transparent and blue, were abundant. In addition, the physico-chemical parameters of the site were also studied.Item TARGETING THE ENV SPIKE PROTEIN OF HIV WITH NATURALLY OCCURRING COMPOUNDS: AN IN SILICO STUDY FOR DRUG DESIGNING(Advances in Traditional Medicine, 2023) Sreeram S; Sathishkumar R; Amritha P.SHuman Immunodefciency Virus (HIV) infects human by destroying the immune system. The types of HIV strains HIV-1 and HIV-2, among HIV-1 being more prevalent and considered deadly. Eventually either of the strains leads to disease Acquired Immunodefciency Syndrome (AIDS). Traditional medicinal plants have a pivotal role in the modern pharmacological process due to their rich composition of secondary metabolites with signifcant biological activity. Computational tools are gaining momentum as they predict with higher accuracy, robust and provide insight in the interaction of small molecule with the disease target protein. This study was conducted for understanding the interaction mode of Phyto compounds with Env spike proteins of HIV. The compounds are studied for ADME properties and molecular docking using Schrödinger software was performed.
